DATA and NUMBERS

The following instructions are for students who are considering careers that focus on quantitative skills, such as designing efficient systems for precise and logical problem analysis, probability analysis, data management and interpretation, cause/effect analysis, and change analysis. Coursework will stress mathematics and technology.

Your fall class schedule will consist of

  • courses from the Curriculum for Liberal Education [CLE] which provide EVERY Virginia Tech student with a broad base of knowledge and transferable skills (these courses are required for all undergraduates), and

  • elective courses that provide introductory information about interest areas.

The CLE divides courses into 7 areas of study. The courses that you may request are listed below by CLE area, plus a section for electives. Please follow the instructions for each section.

Area 1: Writing and Discourse:

Your English placement will be discussed at Orientation. Make no request now.

Area 2: Ideas, Cultural Traditions, and Values -Request at least 2 courses

    If you anticipate receiving Advanced Placement [AP] credit, list your AP Courses here. (Also, make sure that your AP scores are sent to Virginia Tech. Even if you had scores sent during your junior year, you must send them again this year. To do so, call Educational Testing Services at 1-888-225-5427.)
    If you anticipate receiving International Baccalaureate [IB] or transfer credit with dual enrollment, list here the courses and the name of the institution awarding credit. (Also, make sure that your transcript is sent to Virginia Tech from all institutions where you earned credits.
