Academic Appeal Process for University Studies Students

Note: The information on this page applies ONLY to University Studies students. If you are not in University Studies, you must contact YOUR Academic Dean.

If you have been suspended because you failed to meet the University's criteria for academic good standing (2.0 cumulative GPA after a probationary term), you may submit an appeal to the University Academic Appeals Committee.  You must have unusual circumstances beyond your control which contributed to your poor academic performance.

To enter an Appeal, complete the three steps below. The deadlines for submitting your appeal form and any supporting materials are listed in the right-hand column.

  1. Print the academic appeal petition and fill it out (2 pages).
  2. Mail the completed petition to Kimberly Brown, Director, University Academic Advising Center, 117 Femoyer Hall, Blacksburg, VA 24061 (or fax to 540-231-9799).
  3. Make an appointment to speak with Director Kimberly Brown by calling 231-8440.

Important:  The University Academic Advising Center is unable to evaluate medical appeals. If you are appealing your suspension based on medical or psychological grounds, please contact Phyllis Smith (smithpj@vt.edu or 540-231-5313) in Schiffert Health Center.
